The Local Area

Mawnan Smith is a lovely Cornish village ideally situated between the Helford River and the Beaches of South Cornwall, near to the sailing capital and port town of Falmouth. The famous Cornish Coastal Path runs around Mawnan Smith and there are several ways to reach it from the village. Carlidnack Lane itself becomes a public footpath leading directly to the coastal path and Maenporth beach.

In this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty there are three public gardens including Glendurgan, Carwinion and the tropical and exotic gardens at Trebah. You are never far from a palm tree in this part of Cornwall. Neighbouring villages include Helford Passage with the Ferryboat Inn, the old and stunning village of Durgan and Port Navas with beautiful creeks to wander and the oyster farm belonging to the Duchy of Cornwall.

Just a ferry ride across the estuary from Helford Passage is Helford village with beautiful walks and a lovely tea room. From Helford you can walk around the peninsula and take in the beauty of Frenchman's Creek, made famous by Daphne Du Maurier.

The beaches of Falmouth are near by including Swanpool, Gyllyngvase and Castle. Falmouth has a delightful shopping area and for those looking for a larger centre, there is the County town of Truro just 13 miles distant.
